How online PDF compression works

Safety Verified · Local Wipe

PDF documents generated by scanners and office programs contain massive uncompressed color images, metadata trees, and nested vector drawings. Overly large files are rejected by email systems (which normally limit attachments to 10MB or 25MB) and load slowly when displayed online.

Imagick Page Recompilation: Our server-side compression engine opens the PDF file, isolates the canvas pixels, rescales graphic density to specific DPI levels, and recompiles pages using standard JPEGs. This process achieves up to 70% file size reductions depending on the density of images embedded within the source document.

Privacy standard policies: We strictly respect your privacy. All uploaded source documents and compressed outputs are hosted within temporary session directories. The moment you click the download link, the file is unlinked and permanently wiped from the server. Unclaimed files are purged automatically after 5 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does compression affect text readability?

Standard vector text sheets scale cleanly without loss. However, scanned document PDFs (which are essentially flat images of text) may appear slightly less sharp if ECC or DPI resolutions are reduced. Choose the "Low Compression" profile to maintain razor-sharp text quality.

Is there a file upload size limit?

The maximum file size limit is governed by the server's default PHP settings (usually between 8MB and 16MB). For files exceeding this range, compress individual page blocks separately using the PDF Splitter first.
